Meet juliE Dungan, ma, ccc/slp
It takes someone special to hear what a child does not say.
Hi! I’m Julie, a seasoned speech therapist and a mom myself. I know how badly you want your child to feel understood by the world around them. I want that for them too, and together we can make it happen.
I’m a kid person. Children have been my life’s passion for as long as I can remember - from my first babysitting gig, to working in the pediatric ICU in San Antonio. I have lived in many different states and worked as an SLP in just about every setting. Those collective experiences taught me that it isn’t all about the special trainings or fancy certificates (although I do have lots of those). It’s about connecting with a child first, then building communication from there.
In 2012 I moved back to the midwest to raise my kids near family. That is when I launched my practice, Inside Voice. I chose that name to honor the voice inside every child. I spent ten years working almost exclusively in natural environments (homes, daycares, libraries, parks, etc.) During that time I fell in love with therapy woven into real life play and daily routines. I quickly learned that understanding a child’s journey and their family dynamics gave me the insight I needed to make the magic happen.
I discovered that speech therapy can be done almost anywhere that communication happens. Kids were not built to sit still all day, and I certainly wasn’t either. Speech therapy is most effective when a child feels comfortable, is motivated, and is having fun.
I love bringing a little bit of my own flair to my practice. I find ways to incorporate some of my favorite activities into my sessions, including kids’ yoga, messy play, lots of movement, dancing and singing, crafting, and of course a few beloved dogs and horses.
